How often have you walked out to your garden for the first time all year on Mother’s Day weekend and been absolutely overwhelmed by all the planting you need to do?
I get it – life gets in the way of the glorious, beautiful gardens we want to have. But the important part is that you plant a garden. You can’t harvest anything if you don’t plant anything. Period. And here are three tips to make it easy:
Plant your herbs by the door.
You won’t want to go all the way out to the garden when you need just a bit of parsley to finish off a dish. So bring the herbs as close to your kitchen as possible!
Use themes to organize your garden.
This works particularly well if you have separate growing spaces, one large growing space that you can subdivide, or you just want make sure you don’t get overwhelmed later on in the season. And have fun with your themes! You could plant mint, chamomile, and sage together to make a Tea Garden. You could plant cilantro, tomatoes, and lettuce together to make a Taco Garden. The possibilities are endless!
Don’t plant everything at once.
Instead, add new plants or seeds to your garden every two weeks. Not only will you not be overwhelmed trying to plant everything Mother’s Day weekend, but your harvest will also double or triple throughout the season if you commit to adding a few more plants every few weeks.
See? Planting can be easy as long as you break it down into smaller steps. And if you’re really looking to maximize your harvests this year, check out these three steps to take before you plant your garden.
