🌱 Designing Your Restorative Fall Garden

The buzz of the cicadas and return of school busses always jars me into remembering that fall is on the horizon. And while the changing of the seasons can feel bittersweet, it’s a truly exciting time in the garden because we have an entire season left to play with!

The Peace of Autumn Planting 🌱

Let me share a wonderful secret with you: fall gardening, unlike your spring garden, isn’t overwhelming at all.

Instead of starting from scratch, you simply take any space that has opened up in your garden this summer and plant something new there.

Welcome to Your Fall Harvests 🌱

Here are a few fall-loving vegetables and herbs you can plant in September:

  • Herbs: Dill, cilantro
  • Leafy greens: spinach, head lettuce, leaf lettuce
  • Root vegetables: carrots, beets, radishes
  • Brassicas: all of them! Cauliflower, broccoli, and cabbages galore.
  • Fruits: Snap and Snow peas reign supreme here!

Design Your Way to Peaceful, Fall Mornings 🌱

If you want a gorgeous garden that supports your healthy eating goals without demanding hours of your precious energy, keep these design tips in mind:

  • Focusing on smaller plants, like herbs and salad greens, will make the most of your space and give you incredible harvests.
  • Salad greens, including lettuce, arugula, and spinach, thrive beautifully in containers, hanging baskets, and vertical planters.
  • Plant your herbs by your kitchen door door. You won’t want to go all the way out to the garden when you need just a bit of parsley to finish off a dish, so bring the herbs as close to your kitchen as possible!

I know that when you are recovering from a health challenge, or simply managing a busy, fulfilling life, your time and energy are sacred. You shouldn’t have to spend years figuring out how to build a gorgeous, productive garden you can always harvest from.
